Frist pr0st

Finally broke down and decided to write a blog (despite the perversion of the English language that the word “blog” exemplifies). Basically, maintaining interesting links that I encounter and remembering interesting thoughts that come into my head is proving impossible. Information is spread all over the place in bookmarks of various browsers on various machines, in emails I send to various of my own accounts, in papers stacked on my desks - inelegant, can’t find anything, might as well not have wasted the time looking at the information in the first place. Solution, naturally, is to put everything on the web in a database. Write some php or mod_perl with mysql or postgresql backend… But not enough time. Schoolwork and moneywork beckon. So will use an existing CMS. Must run on a machine I have a shell account on, so I control my own data. Must be GPL’ed for philosophical reasons. Drupal is overkill (let’s not even mention slashcode). Wikis are a pain to maintain. B2evolution is too simplistic. WordPress looks about right. Damnation, it’s a blog engine. But might as well use the blogging features since they come with the software, right?

This is called mission creep. Now I have a blog.
