Prepaid credit cards
Suppose you need a credit card to purchase services from a sketchy company in a sketchy country; you are afraid that the charges will exceed the stated rates by a couple orders of magnitude. Some banks allow you to create “virtual credit cards” with a hard credit ceiling. Mine doesn’t. Solution? Use something like XROST iCard or Simon giftcard — essentially, a prepaid credit card. Not good enough to escape from the FBI (your address, name, and phone is still recorded, either directly or via PayPal), but hopefully the system is good enough to evade the less skillful of the Russian hackers.
