Monitor

Replaced my dying 19-inch Viewsonic CRT with a Samsung SyncMaster 730B. Looks nice, and no dead pixels. Complaints: doesn’t like plain old VGA mode, meaning BIOS display is partially cut off (this also happens to the default Linux text console, forcing me to finally set up a VESA framebuffer). Also, the colors aren’t quite right. The gamma is different at different graylevels, and blue is overall too strong, with no obvious way to correct it. On the other hand, the picture is a lot sharper than on the CRT, and fonts (with subpixel hinting) render absolutely excellently.

Overall, not a bad device, but needs some improvement.
