Iran is implementing its own version of the Great Firewall of China. The most interesting thing is that instead of the highly sophisticated Chinese filtering mechanism, Iran simply forces its ISP’s to install commercial off-the-shelf filtering software written by a US company — with some custom rulesets defined. I had no idea that cutting off information to ~70 million people was so cheap and easy. Wasn’t the internet supposed to free and unite the people of the world?
