Borat redux
When I wrote about my initial impressions of Borat, I was under the impression that most of the scenes were staged. Apparently I was wrong. It seems that Bobby Rowe the Tennessee rodeo manager, Cindy Streit the Southern dining etiquette coach, and even the drunk, sexist and racist frat brothers were all real people, expressing their real views on camera. They all thought, at least initially, that the film was a real documentary that would not be shown outside the former Soviet Union…
In view of this development, I must say that Borat is a worthwhile movie. A scene where actors pretend to be idiots is unfunny, but a scene where real idiots from the street show their stuff on camera is, at the very least, informative.
