Known Gentoo ebuild compilation problems

Here are some compiler-related issues I've encountered in Gentoo. This page will be updated as the bugs are dealt with and as I encounter new ones.

app-pda

• plptools-0.11-r1 does not compile at all, AFAIK.
• plptools-0.12 will not compile if you have kde USE flag and do not have kde2 installed.

dev-util

• kdevelop-3.1.* does not work if compiled with hardened gcc-3.4.*

kde-base

• >=arts-1.2.3 does not compile with hardened gcc-3.4.* (well, sometimes it does. Every new kde release, it breaks again, and after a while, vapier or caleb sometimes may fix it. Look at bug #52533 for gory details.)

media-plugins

• gst-plugins-*-0.8.* do not work if compiled with hardened gcc.

media-video

• mplayer-1.0_pre5-r2 does not compile with hardened gcc-3.3.x; I believe that mplayer-1.0_pre5 will compile fine.

sys-apps

• coreutils used to compile but not run with -malign-double in CFLAGS. I am not sure if this is still the case, but it was quite a nasty bug you should keep in mind.

sys-devel

• gcc-3.3.5-r1 does not appear to compile if USE=hardened is on
